HTC Nexus One gets a first class ticket to space

01:22

Do you remember when we brought you news last year that NASA was planning to send the HTC Nexus One into outer space? Well, que up the song by Aerosmith from the soundtrack for the movie Armageddon, because this rocket has lifted off.
According to CNET, Surrey Satellite Technology and the University of Surrey’s Surrey Space Centre have produced a nanosatelite called the STRAND-1 that is mostly operated by an HTC Nexus One. This satellite project officially left the Earth’s atmosphere on Monday from India and in addition to controlling the satellite, a set of apps will be executed; one to snap pictures of Earth from above and another that will play pre-recorded screams and will verify whether these screams can be heard in outer space or not.
Google’s first widely produced Android developer phone, the Nexus One has gone through a series of stress test to see if it has what it takes to stand up to the changes in the environment during its voyage.
Do you think the HTC Nexus One will sink or swim in outer space?
