Leaked picture shows HTC M4 dressed up as the HTC One Mini – hints at May 16 launch date

04:26

Details surrounding the HTC M4 have been floating around for months, but things became a lot more interesting early last week when a new rumor suggested that the device would feature a metal chassis from Catcher Technology, the same supplier HTC has been using for the zero-gap aluminum body of the HTC One. While we’ve seen leaked images of the HTC M4 in the past, today we’re getting our first look at what the HTC M4 could look like when it goes on sale later this quarter.
The image above depicts a handset with a 4.3-inch display with a metal chassis which is nearly identical in design to the HTC One. Subtle differences can be notices in the front-facing speaker grills, flash placement, and the Beats logo on the back, but we wouldn’t hold it against you anyone if they confused this phone for the HTC One. Surprisingly, the design of the HTC M4 is exactly what you’d expect if the high-end HTC One and low-end HTC One SV got together to form the perfect mid-rand device.
As we suggested last week and back before the HTC One was unveiled in February, we expect the HTC M4 to launch as the HTC One Mini. There’s certainly nothing mini about a device with a 4.3-inch display, but he device should be a lot smaller than the original HTC One.
The source of the HTC M4 image claims that the device will be powered by Android 4.2 with a dual-core processor (most likely a 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon), 2GB of RAM, 4.3-inch 720p display, 16GB of internal storage, 1700 mAh battery and an UltraPixel camera. While’s we’re still expecting the HTC M4′s retail debut in late Q2, the image does suggest that HTC could be unveiling the HTC One Mini on May 16th. Naturally, there’s no guarantee that HTC will be announcing the HTC One Mini (or whatever they choose to call the HTC M4) any time soon, but leaked HTC press shots have given away handset launch dates in the past.
All we need now is the retail launch date and a decent price point for the HTC One Mini.
