The HTC One may be the only true flagship device from HTC in 2013, but that doesn’t mean they company is going to sit back and hope for the best. A new report from DigiTimes claims that Catcher Technology will be the exclusive supplier of the metal-alloy chassis for the upcoming HTC M4. Catcher Technology estimates that it will ship 700,000 metal chassis for the HTC M4 in second quarter, suggesting that the HTC M4 could launch in less than two months.
According to previous reports, Leaked images of the HTC M4 depicted a device clad in soft-touch polycarbonate with a metal ring around the camera, reminiscent of last year’s HTC One X. While that may be enough for many to dismiss this latest story from DigiTimes, we’d like to remind you that there were multiple leaked pictures of the HTC One/M7 which looked nothing like the final product unveiled by HTC.
With the HTC One going head-to head with the Samsung Galaxy S 4 in the high-end segment, the HTC M4 may be HTC’s attempt to outclass the rumored Samsung galaxy S 4 Mini which is expected to be a decently spec’d mid-range device.
Previous rumors suggest that the HTC M4 specs will include a 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor, 2GB of RAM, 4.3″ 720p display, and 16GB of internal storage. The M4 will have a 13 megapixel camera with a f/2.0 lens, 1080p HD video recording and a front-facing 1.6-megapixel shooter. Enclose the HTC M4 in a metal-alloy chassis with a design similar to the HTC One and give it front-facing stereo speakers and you’re looking at a phone which could easily be dubbed the HTC One Mini at launch.
