The rumors regarding the HTC Butterfly S turned into reality today when the device was unveiled in Taiwan. The HTC Butterfly S may look like last year’s HTC Butterfly with an extra front-facing speaker, but the internal specifications of the device make it the best phone in HTC’s lineup.
Specs on the HTC Butterfly S include a 5-inch 1080p (440 ppi) Super LCD3 display, quad-core 1.9GHz Snapdragon 600 processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of built-in storage, microSD expansion slot (up to 64GB), BSI UltraPixel camera sensor (we’re presuming 4 megapixels like the HTC One), 2.0 µm pixels size, f2.0 aperture and 28 mm lens for the main camera, 2.1 megapixel shooter on the from with a wide angle lens, and HTC’s trademarked front-facing stereo BoomSound speakers. While the inclusion of a larger display, expandable storage and a slightly faster processor already give the Butterfly S an edge over the HTC One, HTC has chosen to equip the new phone with a massive 3,200 mAh battery, enabling 25 hours of talk and 3.5 days of continuous mp3 playback.
Software features on the HTC Butterfly S will be comparable to those on the HTC One. The device runs on Android (most likely 4.1) with HTC Sense with BlinkFeed, Zoe and the custom camera and gallery applications. The HTC Butterfly S will go on sale in Taiwan starting in July with a sticker price of NT $22,900 ($766 USD). China, Japan and Singapore will most likely see the HTC Butterfly show up in stores by the end of the summer, but we doubt the HTC Butterfly S will be arriving in Europe or North America any time soon.
