So there I was, reading all the great posts from today’s big HTC event for the HTC One. Feeling a little envious of the HTC One I decided to check for any new updates for my HTC One S via the Check Now feature in the settings. I try this feature often, but only half way expect to see anything other than the usual, “There are no updates available for your phone.” message, but tonight I received something different. I had to do a double-take and when I started to get my hopes up alas it was just a 49 MB security update.
Even though I was not on a Wi-Fi connection I went ahead and downloaded the update and it took about 15 minutes for the whole download and install process to execute.
We should be very close to seeing the Jelly Bean update. As some of our readers may recall, at the end of December an email was sent out to loyal HTC users registered on the HTC Elevate website, a private community for HTC’s best users, looking for volunteers to test run the JB update on T-Mobile in the US. It has almost been two months since that email was sent and the radio waves have been silent. We are still hopeful the update is on its way, but it does make us wonder why T-Mobile would push a security patch if the Jelly Bean update is on the way. Why not just roll it all up? Unless that takes longer and in that case we say good job T-Mobile/HTC.
